This route must always be checked for access during the winter months.Via the more conservative and longer route, enjoy a pleasant scenic drive following the Shotover and Clutha Rivers.

• 1330hrs After lunch depart to Glacier Region (Approx travel time 5 hrs) Travel past Lake Hawea via Makaroa to the Haast Pass. Although lower than the other alpine passes, Haast is the mightiest, surrounded by high peaks and forests, with many waterfalls visible from the highway. Continue north to the West Coast Glacier Region.

En route is Shantytown - a replica 1880's mining town set on one of the Coast's former gold rush sites.
